THINK LATER

Tate McRae

This album was a bit of a letdown. It’s not terrible, just unremarkable. “greedy” and “exes” are great tracks––bouncy, catchy, and energetic. “guilty conscience” is my third favorite track (musically, not lyrically).

I enjoy the hints of Y2K pop and the overall aesthetic consistency. However, most melodies and progressions sound derivative and resemble a bland blend of various influences––“think later” is a straight copy-and-paste of Sam Smith’s “Unholy”. Some melodies are crude; the chorus of “messier” makes it skippable.

Also, here’s an interesting fact: on the CD version of the album, “stay done” and “grave” are swapped from the order listed on streaming services 🤷‍♀️.
