Nebraska

Bruce Springsteen

I’ve been sitting on this CD for several months and figured it’d be perfect for our gloomy Michigan November. Springsteen’s songwriting on this one is fantastic. Melodically, it’s not the most interesting, but I actually like that the tracks are less-polished demos: the album has the same raw, unique characteristics as, say, a live performance.

Random thought: Many songs feature or focus on driving in a car, and I’ve noticed this theme in many of the albums I’ve written about so far. Not only is this emblematic of American values such as freedom or representative of escapism, but driving is really something that ties all of us Americans together.
